An Initial Definition Through the Usefulness of Cartography. In Catania, trade in public areas is still one of the main forms of distribution, and assumes an important role in terms of socio-economic fallout, contribution to the attractiveness of tourism, and urban quality. In our analysis we identify a structural development in one of Catania’s important urban markets, involving its subdivision into different categories. We highlight some of the existing problems that, in the long run, could represent limits to its user-friendliness. Our approach features cartography, and will show some elements of “noise” that characterise the urban aspect of one of the most classic cultural icons of the city.
