Italo-Greek hagiographical sources from the 10th-12th centuries do not hesitate to criticize the Muslims, the Latins and the Jews. However, notwithstanding a large number of rhetorical devices filled with hostile statements, these sources also reflect the determination and need of the Greeks of Italy and Sicily to relate to their surroundings. Moreover, these sources attest to the difficult but lasting coexistence of various ethnic components possessing different cultures with their own religious and liturgical traditions.
