Abstract

The main purpose of the Stop Border Violence network is to organise joint action, in a prosocial way, through the use of the formal instrument of the ECI, namely the European Citizens’ Initiative: this initiative is aimed at inducing the European Commission to guarantee and apply, specifically to migrants, the provisions established in art. 4 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. Although recent studies on pro-migrant European protests (Calvário et al., 2020; Fadaee, 2021; Monforte e Maestri, 2022) reveal actions of dissent against political institutions, the aforementioned network would seem to influence political decisions in order to improve the management of migration and ensure respect for human rights. The purpose of the contribution is to analyse the link between prosocial and institutional activism, through the analysis of 15 narrative interviews addressed to Stop Border Violence activists. The network’s participants will be examined to determine their preference for institutionalised or traditional protest, considering both the current emergency situation at the borders and the future implications linked to the European context.
