In the opinion of the majority, the Nissen-Rossetti fundoplication is the most effective operation for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Nevertheless it is not rare in the literature to find postoperative complication as the same symptoms as before operation or new diseases as the gas bloat syndrome. The Authors, by the examination of long-term results of a controlled set of operated patients, confirm the validity of this operation, even if they find 15% complications. They also discuss about the causes of complications saying that these are especially due to inaccurate study of the patients or incorrect operation and so they think that it is possible to prevent them by a careful examination of every single patient. Nevertheless a little of postoperative complications cannot be avoided because of, in the Authors' opinion, they are due to the shape of fundoplication.
