Abstract

A Rett syndrome is a clinical entity characterized by acquired microcephaly, autistic behaviour, hand apraxia, and stereotypies. In the past, many girls affected by Rett syndrome were diagnosed as having infantile autism, and indeed the autistic behaviour appears to be an impressive clinical feature. This paper represents an attempt to better delineate clinical similarities and differences between Rett syndrome and autism.
