Abstract
Paul the Deacon, in the Historia Langobardorum, makes several important references to the animal kingdom. Horses, bisons, wolves, to name but a few, but also fantasy animals such as the Cynocephali come into contact with the protagonists of Lombard history. An analysis of Paul's work shows that he was interested not only in the actual facts of nature, but also in the symbolic dimension attributed to the animal world. A world observed in the Historia Langobardorum through the eyes of a Christian historian who had not completely excluded the pagan and legendary past of his people from the pages of his work.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
