Le défi de l’intertextualité dans la traduction de Héroïnes de Claude Cahun

Stylistic device or subversive instrument, intertextuality represents a real challenge for translators, in particular, if references to one or more intratexts appear as crucial elements to fully understand the source text’s implications. is is especially true when the author of the source text expresses – more or less explicitly – the importance of the intertextual process, or emphasizes its presence, thus giving clues for a satisfying comprehension of the work. rough the use of specific examples from the english (1999) and italian (2011) translations of Claude Cahun’s (1894-1954) Héroïnes (1925), this article aims to analyze the implications of intertextuality in the translation of the work in question, a work based on dialogism and aiming at the subversion of the representation of femininity through the strategic use of quotes and implicit references.
