Il palazzo comunale di Caltagirone (Catania): genesi progettuale e vicende costruttive.

The article aims to tell the story of the project and construction of the town hall of Caltagirone, whose current configuration appears to be the result of a debate that sees the alternation of different projects drawn up by distinct professionals. Beginning with the need to provide a more appropriate seat for municipal authorities, which entailed the purchase of an aristocratic mansion as early as 1846, the building was the result of a reconfiguration by parts of the pre-existence through continuous revisions and changes completed in 1916. The study conducted on bibliographic and archival sources, mainly kept in Caltagirone Municipal Historical Archive and in the private archives of the Nicastro family, also including a series of drawings, has made it possible to outline the fundamental steps of the project and construction process, highlighting the reasons that determined the initial choices, the overlapping of competing projects, the consequent rethinking to which the building was subjected and the architectural solutions
