The paper proposes a critical reading of the complex building stages of the incomplete bell tower of the Adrano Mother Church between 1897 and 1996, based on archival investigations and the principles of the Venice Charter. Cesare Brandi’s complaint of the undue reinforced concrete additions in 1978 and the ensuing debate allowed the partial demolition of the structures in 1996. Thus, the 18th-century facade is once again visible. The restoration of the proper proportions of the urban space still leaves a possible discussion on the late 19th-century pillars in the churchyard, which still partially hide the church.

Abstract
The paper proposes a critical reading of the complex building stages of the incomplete bell tower of the Adrano Mother Church between 1897 and 1996, based on archival investigations and the principles of the Venice Charter. Cesare Brandi’s complaint of the undue reinforced concrete additions in 1978 and the ensuing debate allowed the partial demolition of the structures in 1996. Thus, the 18th-century facade is once again visible. The restoration of the proper proportions of the urban space still leaves a possible discussion on the late 19th-century pillars in the churchyard, which still partially hide the church.File in questo prodotto:
