The article draws on the attention that has recently been paid to David Hume’s miscellaneous writings dating back to his formative years; in doing so, the author reflects on the way in which some of the most well-known and innovative arguments of Hume’s production were born and became the main argument of his major works, both on the theoretical and the practical side of his philosophical interests. The article specifically aims to emphasize how Hume’s extensive and patient work of annotating excerpts from publications on a wide range of topics (philosophy, history, politics, economics), carried out in the years preceding and contemporary to the publications of his Treatise on Human Nature, as well as his early exercises in essay writing, represent the real space for the development of some key concepts of his thought (especially on the subject of politics and religion). These concepts (custom, belief, empiricism, naturalism, scepticism, moderation) remain, to these days, a privileged field of critical debate concerning his philosophy.

Abstract
These concepts (custom, belief, empiricism, naturalism, scepticism, moderation) remain, to these days, a privileged field of critical debate concerning his philosophy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
