This paper examines Ortega y Gasset’s view of love as a spatial phenomenon. Drawing on his philosophical anthropology, it explores how love manifests as phenomenon of the soul, wherein the lover transfers their center of gravity to another person. The argument emphasizes that love is spatial because human beings are spatial, and space is always a perspective. Ortega distinguishes between mathematical and sentimental geometries: love disrupts the linearity of geometric space and opens access to a new dimension: sentimental space. Additionally, the paper references two letters from Rilke’s epistolary corpus that poetically amplify and resonate with Ortega’s interpretation of love.
