The contribution intends to suggest some reflections on the role of the Gonzaga ladies in the southern Renaissance between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, starting from their being protagonists of a flow of political exchanges that took place between the north and south of a peninsula on the verge of the loss of political freedom and, then, shaken by the wars of Italy and the subsequent subjection to Spanish rule. It will also deal with the original ways in which they combined political action and taste for letters and the arts on the basis of cultural patterns and interests shared with their families of origin despite the physical distances and stormy events that marked their individual experiences.

Abstract
The contribution intends to suggest some reflections on the role of the Gonzaga ladies in the southern Renaissance between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, starting from their being protagonists of a flow of political exchanges that took place between the north and south of a peninsula on the verge of the loss of political freedom and, then, shaken by the wars of Italy and the subsequent subjection to Spanish rule. It will also deal with the original ways in which they combined political action and taste for letters and the arts on the basis of cultural patterns and interests shared with their families of origin despite the physical distances and stormy events that marked their individual experiences.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
