This paper focuses on the study of patents dynamics in the region carried out in the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, known as the Eastern Balkans. Patents data are a key source of information for innovation economists. This attention is favored by a better dissemination of patents following the digitization process of the archives, that is to a greater openness by the authorities with respect to requests for granting patent. Moreover, the use of this information over time, has not been limited to simple statistics 65 SUDEUROPA – 1/2022| ISSN 2532-0297 on patents and their classification, but has extended to the analysis of applicants, inventors, citations, and much more. This analysis aims to define the boundaries of the benefits that membership as an EU Member State has generated on some of the Nations located in this geographical area.
