The transition from modernity to postmodern globalization marked a profound reform of the concept of “border”, which is no longer simply an “instrument of political identification”. Keeping in mind the lesson of Schmitt, according to which “there is no ordering without localization”, the first argument will be that the form and ontological substance of a political entity will depend on the device used by it for localization. Secondly, following Foucault, I will try to identify a new concept of border as “procedural device”. It will be functional to the various political bodies in today’s global “imperial” order: less and less interstate and more and more transnational.

Abstract
The transition from modernity to postmodern globalization marked a profound reform of the concept of “border”, which is no longer simply an “instrument of political identification”. Keeping in mind the lesson of Schmitt, according to which “there is no ordering without localization”, the first argument will be that the form and ontological substance of a political entity will depend on the device used by it for localization. Secondly, following Foucault, I will try to identify a new concept of border as “procedural device”. It will be functional to the various political bodies in today’s global “imperial” order: less and less interstate and more and more transnational.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
