This work aims to develop a phenomenology of socialized gender discrimination in order to deconstruct the “banal” cultural structures of patriarchy. The focus of the discussion was on the body as a point of application of gender inequalities. A foucaultian perspective has been adopted, assimilating patriarchy to the bio-power exerted by a vitalpolitik. It has been seen, thus, how much the body is built and shaped by two precise devices of power: the discourses, assimilated to the “stigmas” of Goffman, and the “discipline”, exercised by the “male gaze” of Bourdieu. This shows how patriarchy lives in its own appearance, flattening its “noumenon” on its “phenomenon”. However, a way to escape these endemic control mechanisms is found in the relativization of the cogito and of the body itself by Merleau-Ponty.
