This paper examines Carl Schmitt’s reflections on technology, focusing on his marginal texts where it emerges as a crucial issue. These writings reveal a central tension: the clash between the spatial and legal order of the nomos and the destabilizing power of modern technology. Unlike contemporaneous critics of modernity, Schmitt does not adopt a nostalgic or moralizing stance; he investigates technology with sober clarity, recognizing both its emancipatory potential and its capacity to depoliticize and deterritorialise, reshaping space and political structures. In these minor writings, he shows how technology masks decisions as neutral and functional, shifting responsibility from individuals to impersonal systems. The analysis highlights legal and anthropological consequences: human action risks becoming subordinate to technical apparatuses, exposing the fragility and precariousness of modern legal-political order in an era dominated by global technological systems.
