The chapter considers the pedagogic model implied by the term 'learning region'. Il suggests that since the 1960s, pedagogic thought has focused on the elaboration of an idea of educational development that takes place at a local level and is able to distance itself from the fragmentary and separate nature of traditional training. The theoretical hypothesis of the Integrated Educational System is still one of the main conceptual pillars of current pedagogical thought in Italy, a framework that has shown such potential that it has been applied to a variety of educational issues, unlike the concept of learning region, a more recent concept, popular in other parts of Europe. The research project presented in the chapter seeks to make a critical comparative analysis of the model of Integrated Siystem and the educational model proposed by the learning region, in order to pinpoint the possibility of introducing the learning region model in the Italian context and the strenghts and weaknesses of the learning region model from an educational point of view.
