The mobile measurement of electromagnetic fields (emf) allows us to constantly monitor a wide part of the territory very quickly and cut the price. The study of an experimental apparatus designed for such kind of measurements will be presented. The experimental setup uses broadband instruments for emf measurements synchronized with GPS-GIS (global position system-geographic information systems) systems. The apparatus is installed on a vehicle in motion in order to measure continuously at the same time the position of the probe and the correspondent emf value. The results, however, are affected by many factors, as vehicle presence, probe position, and field frequency. Using a metallic shield with known geometric and dielectric properties it is possible to overcome these problems. Moreover the effect of the metallic shield on the emf measured value can be easily simulated and reproduced in laboratory. Some laboratory measurements are performed in order to optimize the experimental apparatus for the measure of emf of interest.
