ESCA has been used to monitor the changes in the surface chemistry of Poly 2-(2-hydroxy-3-vinyl-5-methylphenyl)-benzotriazole during exposure to UV light in air. Rapid oxygen uptake was observed. The data are discussed with respect to the inability of the functional moiety in the polymer to retard surface photo-oxidation.

Abstract
