The aim of this paper is to perform a sensitivity analysis of various formulas for predicting hiding processes in simulating bed aggradation. For this purpose a semi-coupled numerical model for sediment mixtures, based on solving the governing equations of flow and sediment by the finite difference MacCormack, was developed. The model was applied to the aggradation experimental data of Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory. Thanks to the schematization adopted in modelling the experiments some numerical problems encountered by previous authors were overcome and a more realistic description of experimental conditions was achieved.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to perform a sensitivity analysis of various formulas for predicting hiding processes in simulating bed aggradation. For this purpose a semi-coupled numerical model for sediment mixtures, based on solving the governing equations of flow and sediment by the finite difference MacCormack, was developed. The model was applied to the aggradation experimental data of Saint Anthony Falls Laboratory. Thanks to the schematization adopted in modelling the experiments some numerical problems encountered by previous authors were overcome and a more realistic description of experimental conditions was achieved.
