The authors present a checklist of Neotropical mantids; the 15 families currently valide, six (Chaetessidae, Metallyticidae, Hymenopodidae, Thespidae, Acanthopidae) are present in this area. Chaetessidae and Metallyticidae are exclusive to the American continent. Currently in the Neotropics are recognized 474species distributed in 95 genera.
