Recent observational results by Mathioudakis et al. have suggested that optical U-band flares are a frequent occurrence on the RS CVn star, LT Peg. We present U-band monitoring of II Peg in 1992 September which failed to show any evidence of flaring to very low limits. We show that these data are inconsistent with the flaring rates reported earlier and suggest that either II Peg was in a state of low flare activity in 1992, or that it was unusually active at the time of Mathioudakis et al.'s observations.

Abstract

Recent observational results by Mathioudakis et al. have suggested that optical U-band flares are a frequent occurrence on the RS CVn star, LT Peg. We present U-band monitoring of II Peg in 1992 September which failed to show any evidence of flaring to very low limits. We show that these data are inconsistent with the flaring rates reported earlier and suggest that either II Peg was in a state of low flare activity in 1992, or that it was unusually active at the time of Mathioudakis et al.'s observations.
