Summary Patients with epilepsy often have problems in emotions management, affecting their relational experience. Starting from this hypothesis, we undertook a psychodiagnostical study in order to highlight connections between their ability to show emotions, the perception of others’ emotions, difficulties in showing empathy and an increased presence of epileptic symptoms. We studied 73 patients, different by sex, years of illness, age at seizure onset and seizure semiology. Psychodiagnostic instruments used were the EQ-i Emotional Quotient Inventory and the POMS: Profile of Mood States. Examined patients revealed a poor ability to manifest their feelings and thoughts, correlated with their disease status, and a lack of ability to handle stressful situations. Key words: emotions, epilepsy, mood states
