The contribution presents the experience of the city of Lucca as a Learning City. The focus is on the new UNESCO’s social contract (2021) and on the role that schools are assuming, as privileged actresses, within the model based on the alliance between the various stakeholders in the Lucca area. The theme of Learning Cities is first introduced and then the Pact for Permanent Learning promoted by the municipal Admin- istration to support the networking of resources is presented. Finally, from the point of view of the Administration of the city of Lucca, the prospects for the future of education in the area are discussed in the light of the principles of sustainable development.
