Il repertorio linguistico della Sicilia rinascimentale nell’opera lessicografica di L.C. Scobar

The linguistic repertoire of Renaissance Sicily in the lexicographic works of L. C. Scobar · he aim of this paper is to present an initial inquiry into the Vocabularium Nebrissense Ex Siciliensi sermone in Latinum L. Christophoro Scobare Bethico Interprete traductum, published in enice in 1519. We rst highlight how huge a metalinguistic e ort it was for the cultured ndalusian cobar to author his icilian-atin bilingual dictionary in the absence of any lexicographic tradition (the ebrissense is among the rst printed 16th century dictionaries). n particular, cobar accounts for variants and paradigm internal relationships (along with atin equivalents and dialect synonyms) perceived as salient at the time in which he wrote the dictionary; also relevant is the repetition of lexemes at the beginning of the entries (in order to account for polysemy or homonymy). he immense documentary value that the ebrissense has with regard to the sixteenth-century icilian is also highlighted, due to the undoubted presence of phonetic, syntactic and semantic-lexical elements relating the word list to the linguistic milieu in which the prelate lived for about thirty years (until his death).
