Through a comparative study between Italy and Argentina, carried out through in-depth interviews with key actors such as some prison directors and the relative school managers, and against the background of the Covid-19 pandemic, the article aims to analyse and compare past and current images on information and communication technologies (Ict) in prison, especially focused on educational processes. The interpretative investigation on the practices of Ict use in prison by the prison regime and the school actors, on the meanings attributed to them and the effects of their implementation, as well as on the possible lines of development lets emerge the existing tensions between physical closure and virtual openness, between new patterns assumed by the educational processes with the integration or enhancement of Ict and new ways of building the prison order in a pandemic time.
