Abstract

Small and large waste on beaches represents a challenge to protect the natural environment. Autonomous robots can provide valuable support in addressing such a compelling environmental issue. This work presents SandRo, an off-road mobile manipulator developed as part of a multi-robot system to automate detecting, collecting, and sorting waste on beaches. The implementation and the on-field results obtained are presented and discussed for the real-world case studies investigated in the BIOBLU project framework, demonstrating the feasibility and effectiveness of our solution.
