In this work some results of researches related to humanitarian demining that are in progress at DEES, University of Catania, will be described. In particular two aspects will be presented: the hybrid robot WHEELEG and the intelligent contact sensor PERM. WHEELEG is a robot with two front legs and two rear wheels suitable for exploring rough environments, PERM is a smart contact sensor suitable for automatic surface material recognition. In the paper some preliminary experimental results of both systems are shown.
